When are tryouts?
Tryout dates vary each year. In Fall of 2008 tryouts were held on September 2nd and 31st. The tryouts began at 10:10 PM at Fox Valley Ice Arena in the NHL rink. Tryouts consisted of two parts; one held on August 29th and the second held on August 31st. Both lasted 90 minutes and they were mandatory in order to be considered for the team. Do I have to attend Northern Illinois University to tryout?
Yes, you must be a student taking at least 9 credit hours with a passing G.P.A. to tryout to be on the team. NIU's passing G.P.A. is a 2.0. Learn more about becoming a student at NIU.
 
If I was on the team last year am I guaranteed a spot on the team this year?
No, you will need to go through tryouts just like everyone else. So if you want try and be a Huskie again, make sure you're there for the tryouts.
 
How many people tryout and make it each year?
We have anywhere from approximately 10 to 20 new guys tryout each year. We can roster up to 25 players which includes 22 skaters and 3 goalies. The team however, is not an equal ice time team. The coach will post who plays in what game at least an hour before the start of the game. We will dress 19 skaters and 2 goalies, which means that 3 skaters and 1 goalie will not dress every game. But it is not a rotation (we are not an equal ice time team), the coach will decide.
 
What are the details on games, tournaments, and practices?

Practices are often late due to students having night classes but you get use to the schedule and it becomes enjoyable. We usually play two games a weekend, taking maybe 5-6 road trips a year which requires you to bring a little money for food and chipping in for hotels.
 
How much does it cost to join?
Last year the cost of the season was $800. There is no guarantee this price will remain the same for the future. If a player can obtain sponsors we will give the player a 50% deduction of the amount the sponsor provides. If you would like, you can attend one of our games (see Schedule).
