After a tough first weekend in Kansas, the NIU Hockey bounced back this weekend taking both games from Marquette, 6-4 and 6-5 in OT.  Although the team won, sloppy play and penalties cost the Huskies many unseen opportunities.  Coach Jim Sullivan said, “Marquette having 7 of their 9 goals on the power play really cost us this weekend.  I am happy with two wins, but not with the overall play of the team.”

Brightspots on the weekend came from Peter Alfano and Mike Sible.  Alfano had 3 goals, 4 assists, while Sible also had 3 goals, 4 assists in the two weekend games.  Mike Strumberger also added 3 points to his total on the weekend, and Will Hildebrandt scored his first and second collegiate goals over the weekend.  Goaltender Brandon Colello started game one and played very well.  NIU player, Dave Brienzo said, “The penalties hurt us so much, without those they would have never been able to put the puck in on Brandon.”
