NIU Hockey expected this weekends exhibition games vs. Lake Forest College to be helpful and a confidence builder going into the next two weekends of MACHA league games. But despite these expectations the Huskies would come out with a loss on Friday night and a shootout lose on Saturday night.

On Friday the Huskies really could not put out any offensive effort. There were only able to score one goal from Greg Bahnsen and asssited by Peter Alfano. The Forresters of Lake Forest also had offensive struggles but were able to sneak two past NIU Freshman goaltender Kenny Schatz on 41 shots, and win 3-1.

Saturdays first two periods by the Huskies saw the team that was expected in both games. The Huskies scored four goals before the Forresters even put their first one in the net. The Huskies had two goals and one assist from sophmore Mike Sible, and one goal each from Mike Maninna and Mike Strumberger. Having a four goal lead did not put the Huskies in a safe situation as they allowed the Forresters to score four un-answered goals themselves, and put the game into overtime. A major part of these 4 un-answered goal was the fact that NIU had 19 penalties called against them compared to only 9 for the Forresters. No game winner would be scored in extra time. After 5 rounds of a back and forth shootout, the Forresters came out on top and the game would end 5-4 in their favor. In net was Brandon Colello stopping 44 on 48 shots.

The Huskies will now have their first home weekend of the semester as they will face MACHA foe, the St.Louis University Billikens, this Friday night at 9pm and Saturday afternoon at 3pm. It is also Student Association Weekend at the Ice Centre. They are all looking for as many SA organizations to try to get their respected groups out to the game to cheer the Huskies on.
